On 23rd May this year Ireland became the first country in the world to say YES to marriage equality by popular vote! I am very proud of my country and it’s citizens for making this happen. This means that LGBT couples can now have their civil marriage ceremony in Ireland. If you are currently engaged and planning your wedding then you may be facing alot of new challenges. Many couples are still unsure about where to start in the planning process or what obstacles they may face going forward.
In 2012 I became the first person in Ireland to complete the Gay Wedding Institute Certification Course. This allowed me to fully understand what makes gay weddings different from straight weddings, what elements are included in the wedding and what are left out. I also learned about the concerns couples have when shopping for wedding attire, finding suitable suppliers and how to ensure that all couples have a positive and special experience while planning their civil ceremony.

We cannot begin to thank Sharon for being our wedding planner. Our Civil Partnership took 18 months to plan and Sharon was with us each step of the way. The ability to work with two grooms with very different ideas and thoughts was something Sharon took in her stride, helping to find a balance of personalities which was showcased on our day. Sharon’s expert knowledge was a huge asset to us with every question and concern quickly solved with a smile. Sharon took the stress away which allowed us to enjoy the journey and create memories which we will treasure forever. We could not have asked for a better day. We will forever be grateful to Sharon and certainly have made a friend for life!
